Spine Surgeon Joins Hospital Staff

Frank Hermantin, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery, has joined the Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital medical staff and the practice of Frederick Lohr, M.D., Chestertown Orthopedics.

The new physician received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Allegheny University before taking a spine surgery fellowship in San Francisco last year. The fellowship added the latest developments in neck and back treatments to his base in general orthopedics. hearmatin.jpg (41611 bytes)

He treats a wide variety of orthopedic conditions including degenerative disk disease, scoliosis and disk herniations. Recently, he has been employing minimally invasive microendoscopic techniques that shorten hospital stays and reduce pain; an advantage of this technique is that patients may have a herniated disk removed with two or three small incisions as an outpatient rather than a more invasive procedure which would require being an inpatient. Dr. Hermantin has also been trained in the non-operative treatment of back pain, using many innovative pain control techniques.

Dr. Hermantin and his wife, Jennifer Phelps, a family practitioner who is not currently practicing, have three young children.
