RELEASE: Immediately Auxiliary Donates $80,00 to Hospital The Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital Auxiliary completed its pledge to establish the Katherine "Kitty" Anthony Clements Scholarship program by presenting $50,000 from its 2001 Christmas Shop fund raiser to the Hospital. The scholarship is intended to assist individuals seeking an associate degree or a certificate to become health care providers in a field necessary to meet the workforce needs of the hospital. Scholarships will be offered annually as long as funds are available.Clements, a Kingstown resident, was a devoted volunteer who supported several organizations in the community. She served the auxiliary as president and held many other offices and chairmanships during her long association with the group. At the time of her death in January 2001, she was an active in-house volunteer giving time each week to help the hospital staff. Kent Conservation, another group that benefited from Clements' volunteerism, also contributed $1,000 to the scholarship fund. The Auxiliary also donated an additional $30,000, earned in part by the Nearly New Shop and Hospital Gift Shop, to the Hospital. The presentations took place at the Auxiliary's annual meeting on March 12 where Bud Dengler was elected president; Meg Gulbrandsen, first vice president; Howard White, second vice president and Barbara Winner, recording secretary. Jerry McCarthy was re-elected as the treasurer and Joanne Bowdle as the corresponding secretary.
